Liebe Studierende,
Willkommen an der WU und willkommen im Wintersemester 2024/25. Ich hoffe, Sie hatten einen angenehmen Start und konnten sich bereits gut in den laufenden Semesterbetrieb einleben.
Als Vizerektor für Personal und Digitale Infrastruktur möchte ich Sie gerne auf das wichtige Thema der Informationssicherheit aufmerksam machen und Ihnen auf diesem Wege auch Matthias Harrer vorstellen, der als Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) an der WU für Fragen zur Informationssicherheit und den sicheren Umgang mit Daten verantwortlich ist. Informationssicherheit ist ein Thema, dass alle Angehörigen der Universität betrifft; als "Responsible University" sind wir alle als WU-Angehörige für Informationssicherheit mitverantwortlich.
Aus diesem Grund möchten wir einige grundlegende Hinweise in Erinnerung rufen:

Der WU-Account
Der WU-Account ist das zentrale Element, dass Sie in der digitalen Welt der Universität identifiziert. Aus diesem Grund ist es auch besonders wichtig, auf diesen aufzupassen. Sie sollten deshalb ein sicheres Passwort vergeben und das optionale Angebot nutzen und den zweiten Faktor aktivieren: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-microsoft-authenticator-with-microsoft-365-1412611f-ad8d-43ab-807c-7965e5155411#ID0EBBH=Step_1
Diese Kombination schützt Ihren Account optimal und damit auch Ihre Informationen vor dem Zugriff Dritter!

Drittanbieter-Apps
Es gibt diverse Apps, die nicht von der WU zur Verfügung gestellt werden und die anbieten, Sie beim Studium zu unterstützen. Allerdings benötigen diese oft Zugriff auf Ihren WU-Account. Bedeutet, dass Sie dort Ihren WU-Benutzernamen und Passwort eingeben sollen, um darüber auf WU-Dienste zugreifen zu können. Damit geben Sie jedoch einem Dritten den Schlüssel zu Ihren Daten (Noten, Adresse etc.). Ich rate Ihnen deshalb ab diese zu nutzen und auf das Angebot der WU zurückzugreifen.

Zugriff auf sensible Informationen
Im Laufe ihres Studiums kann es immer wieder vorkommen, dass Sie Zugriff auf sensible Informationen bekommen. Dies kann im Zuge einer Forschungsarbeit, eines Tutorendienstes oder einfach bei der Unterstützung ihrer Kolleg*innen sein. Bitte seien Sie sich Ihrer Verantwortung für diese Daten bewusst und geben Sie auf diese Acht.
Zum Abschluss möchte ich Ihnen noch mit auf den Weg geben, dass Sie sich bewusst machen, dass Sie neben der analogen Identität eben auch über eine digitale Version verfügen. Das gilt sowohl beruflich als auch privat.

Beide sind gleich schützenswert!

Information security is an issue that affects all members of the university; as a "Responsible University", we all share responsibility for information security as WU members.
For this reason, we would like to remind you of some basic information:

The WU account
The WU account is the central element that identifies you in the digital world of the university. For this reason, it is particularly important to take care of it. This combination optimally protects your account and thus also your information from access by third parties!

Third-party apps
There are various apps that are not provided by WU and that offer to support you in your studies. However, they often require access to your WU account. This means that you have to enter your WU username and password in order to access WU services. This gives a third party the key to your data (grades, address, etc.). I therefore advise you not to use this and to use the services offered by WU.

Access to sensitive information
In the course of your studies, you may be given access to sensitive information. This may be in the course of a research project, a tutoring service or simply when supporting your colleagues. Please be aware of your responsibility for this data and take care of it.
In conclusion, I would like to advise you to be aware that you also have a digital version in addition to your analog identity. This applies both professionally and privately.

Both are equally worth protecting!
