<p class="MsoNormal">Liebe Studierende,<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Wir möchten Sie darüber informieren, dass mit <b>01.Oktober 2017 </b>eine Novelle des Universitätsgesetzes in Kraft getreten ist. Die wichtigsten Änderungen für Sie als Studierende/r sind folgende:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><u>Beurlaubung</u></b>: Während eine Beurlaubung bisher für höchstens 2 Semester je Anlassfall beantragt werden konnte, ist dies nunmehr für ein oder mehrere Semester möglich. Die Beurlaubung vom Studium kann nur mehr bis längstens zum

 Beginn des jeweiligen Semesters beantragt werden (1. März bzw. 1. Oktober). Nur bei unvorhergesehenem und unabwendbarem Eintritt eines gesetzlichen Beurlaubungsgrundes kann dies bis längstens zum Ende der Nachfrist (30. April bzw. 30. November) des jeweiligen

 Semesters erfolgen. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Positiv beurteilte Prüfungen konnten bisher einmalig binnen 6 Monaten nach Ablegung der Prüfung wiederholt werden. Diese Frist wurde auf 12 Monate nach Ablegung der positiv beurteilten Prüfung geändert.

<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Schon bisher konnten <b><u>akademische Grade widerrufen</u></b> werden, wenn sich im Nachhinein herausstellt, dass der akademische Grad z.B. durch gefälschte Zeugnisse erschlichen wurde. Im Universitätsgesetz wurde nun festgelegt, dass

 neben den akademischen Graden auch die in Universitätslehrgängen verliehenen akademischen Bezeichnungen widerrufen werden können. Neben gefälschten Zeugnissen kann auch nachgewiesenes Vortäuschen von wissenschaftlichen Leistungen (z.B. Ghostwriting) Grundlage

 für den Widerruf des akademischen Grades oder der akademischen Bezeichnung sein. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Darüber hinaus fällt beim Erlass des Studienbeitrages, aufgrund eines Höchstgerichtlichen Urteils, der <b><u>Erlassgrund der Erwerbstätigkeit</u></b> mit 30.06.2018 weg. Ab Wintersemester 2018/19 kann daher der Erlass des Studienbeitrages

 aufgrund von Erwerbstätigkeit nicht mehr geltend gemacht werden.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Dear students,<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">We are writing to inform you about an amendment of the Universities Act that came into effect on

<b>October 1, 2017</b>. The most important changes for you as a student are as follows:

<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><u><span lang="EN-US">Leave of absence</span></u></b><span lang="EN-US">: Until now, it has only been possible to take a leave of absence of up to two semesters at a time. Since the amendment, it is now possible to take a leave of absence

 for one or more semesters. Applications for a leave of absence must now be submitted by the start of the respective semester (by March 1 or October 1). Only in the event of unforeseeable and unavoidable legal grounds for a leave of absence will applications

 be accepted until the end of the extended admission period (April 30 or November 30) of the respective semester.

<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Until now, it was only possible to repeat<b><u> examinations with a passing grade</u></b></span><span lang="EN-US"> within six months of taking the exam. This deadline has been extended to within 12 months of taking the

 passed exam. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Academic degrees <span lang="EN-US">could be revoked before now if it is determined after granting the degree that it was obtained through false means, e.g. based on forged certificates.

 However, the Universities Act now specifies that not only academic degrees but also the titles granted after completing university certificates/continuing education programs can be revoked as well. In addition to forgery, degrees or titles can be revoked if

 it is determined that other forms of academic fraud were involved (e.g. the use of a ghostwriter).

<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">A further change concerns tuition fees: As of June 30, 2018,

<b><u>employment </u></b>is no longer<b><u> legal grounds for a waiver of tuition fees</u></b>, based on a ruling of the Supreme Court. For this reason, employment as a valid grounds for a waiver of tuition fees no longer applies starting in the 2018/19 winter

 semester. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
