Welcome to our first ever newsletter! It's been a while in the making and we hope you enjoy reading about what we've been up to these last few months.<br>

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>The faces behind The intiMate Initiative</strong></span><br>
We want to use our newsletter to introduce the key people behind <em>The intiMate Initiative</em>. While Annika and Amy run the show, we most certainly rely on our team to help us get things done.<br>
<br>
We wouldn't be where we are today without <strong>Alison Hoover</strong>, our brilliant sexual health educator. Her passion for sexual health education as a tool for behavioural change and empowerment is infectious, and it's an absolute pleasure working with her. In the future, she will be developing targeted sexual health training material and information booklets on sexual health services in Hanoi, as well as accompanying us to Quest Festival in November (see <strong>Something to look forward to: Our next intiMate Events</strong>). Alison is the genius behind most of our blog posts and she has been an incredible help so far - from content development and design to funding applications, whatever the task, she's always keen to take on a challenge. Thanks a million Ali!

We're currently working on the prototyping and production of the first two products in our range:<br>
<br>
<strong>Your miniMate</strong> is a compact wristlet made from cotton and ethnic minority woven brocade. Each pouch contains a condom and instructions for use. Of course, it doesn't have to be used just for condoms: you can carry around spare change, keys or medication - either as a wristlet, or folded up in your handbag or pocket! It comes in a variety of colours and we'll be adding more and more ethnic minority fabrics as we go! <em>Your miniMate</em> is currently in production in Hue (see <strong>Our Partners in Focus</strong>) and we hope to start taking orders in the run-up to Christmas (we’ll keep you updated on this!).

<strong>Your intiMate</strong> is medium-sized zippered bag that contains compartments and pockets for contraceptives, medication, sanitary products and even a spare change of underwear! Its main purpose is to provide a handy yet discreet way for women to carry around all their bits and bobs. Just like <em>Your miniMate</em>, it features ethnic minority fabrics from Vietnam. We've got the prototypes ready; as a next step we need to work with our production partners to discuss the details!

One of our most important partners is the producer of our bags, The Hope Centre, which is a vocational training centre in Hue (Central Vietnam) for young adults with disabilities, both mental and physical, and ethnic minority women from A Luoi, a rural mountainous community on the Vietnamese-Laotian border. Thua Thien-Hue Province was ravaged by the war and the use of Agent Orange and other defoliants still has an impact on the local population today, with many children born with disabilities. The Hope Centre trains these vulnerable youths and adults in tailoring, handicrafts and the basics of entrepreneurship, providing them with a stable source of income and a home. This wonderful place is very close to our hearts, since we've all been to visit the centre and Amy spent four months volunteering there back in 2011. We're delighted to be able to support another social enterprise by establishing what we hope to be a highly fruitful long-term partnership, not only for the production of <em>Your miniMate</em> but also as a community where we can provide much-needed education on sexual health issues. <br>

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>A Review of our intiMate Events: October</strong></span><br>
Two weeks ago <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> had the pleasure of participating in the AFL Finals Night organised by the Vietnam Swans, the finest Australian Footie team we've ever come across! Amazingly, we'd been approached a while back to see if we'd be interested in presenting our work at the event. It was a fun day of great sports comradery and the selection of raffle and auction prizes was stunning! Most notably - and a huge thanks to the Vietnam Swans for this, <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> will receive a share of the proceeds raised to help support our team of translators who are working on a Vietnamese version of our blog!<br>

The week after we were invited by the Careers Development Centre at the University St Andrews in Scotland to present <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> at Enterprise Week. It was lovely to meet up with like-minded students and staff members and discuss social entrepreneurship, the steps we've taken with <em>The intiMate Initiative </em>so far, and the importance of being brave and taking that great leap into the unknown!<br>

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>Something to look forward to: Our next intiMate Events</strong></span><br>
<em>The intiMate Initiative</em> is super excited to be attending Quest Festival, one of Asia's hottest music and arts events, in Ba Vi in Vietnam from 6-8 November. We're going to be selling <em>Your miniMate</em> at the flea market and will be running a sexual health information exhibition, too. Come by to say hi, we'll be wearing our <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> shirts!<br>

Hier kommt unser erster, vollständiger Newsletter. Wir haben eine Weile daran gearbeitet und hoffen, unser Update zu den letzten Monaten gefällt dir.<br>

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>Die Personen hinter The intiMate Initiative</strong></span><br>
Wir möchten diesen Newsletter nutzen, um die wichtigsten Personen für <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> vorzustellen. Während Annika und Amy alles koordinieren, könnten wir die Arbeit gar nicht ohne unser Team schaffen.<br>
<br>
Wir wären heute nicht hier ohne <strong>Alison Hoover</strong>, unserer genialen Sexualkundebeauftragten. Ihre Leidenschaft für Sexualkunde und die Entwicklung von passenden Materialien um Verhaltensänderung und die Stärkung von Frauen voranzutreiben, ist ansteckend. Wir arbeiten wirklich sehr gerne mit ihr zusammen. In Zukunft wird sie Materialien für Trainingskurse entwickeln und eine Informationsbroschüre zu Gesundheitsservices in Hanoi erstellen. Sie fährt auch mit uns zum Quest Festival im November (siehe hierzu: <strong>Was passiert jetzt? Die nächsten intiMate Events</strong>). Alison ist das Genie hinter dem Großteil unserer Blogposts und hat uns bis jetzt unfassbar viel geholfen – von inhaltlichen Fragen und Design zu Anträgen für finanzielle Unterstützung. Im Moment arbeiten wir an den Prototypen und der Produktion unserer ersten zwei Produkte:<br>
<br>
<strong>Your miniMate</strong> ist ein Armband aus Baumwolle und einer Bordüre die von ethnischen Minderheiten gewoben wird. Jedes Armband enthält ein Kondom und eine Gebrauchsanweisung. Natürlich kann man die Armbänder nicht nur für Kondome einsetzen – sie bieten sich auch für Kleingeld, Schlüssel oder Medikamente an, entweder als Armband oder zusammengefaltet in der Hand- oder Hosentasche! Wir bieten das Armband in verschiedenen Farben an und werden mehr und mehr Stoffe von ethnischen Minderheiten hinzufügen. Your miniMate wird derzeit in Hue in Zentralvietnam hergestellt (siehe dazu: <strong>Unsere Partner im Rampenlicht</strong>) und wir hoffen, dass wir vor Weihnachten eure Bestellungen aufnehmen können (dazu gibt’s aber zeitnah noch mehr Infos!). <br>

<strong>Your intiMate</strong> ist eine ca. A5-große Reißverschlusstasche, die Fächer für Verhütungsmittel, Medikamente, Frauenhygieneprodukte und sogar frische Unterhosen hat. Die Tasche bietet eine diskrete Aufbewahrungsmöglichkeit, damit frau alle Notwendigkeiten immer dabei hat. Die Tasche besteht genau wie <em>Your miniMate</em> zum Teil aus Stoffen von ethnischen Minderheiten. Die Prototypen sind fertig – als nächstes steht an, die Produktion mit unseren Partnern abzusprechen!

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>Unsere Partner im Rampenlicht</strong></span><br>
Einer unserer wichtigsten Partner ist das Hope Centre in Hue, das unsere Taschen produziert. Das Hope Centre ist eine Ausbildungsstätte in Hue (Zentralvietnam) für junge Erwachsene mit geistigen oder körperlichen Behinderungen sowie Frauen der ethnischen Minderheit der A Luoi Region – eine Berggegend an der Grenze zwischen Vietnam und Laos. Die Provinz Thua Thien-Hue war sehr stark vom Vietnamkrieg betroffen und der Einsatz von Chemikalien wie Agent Orange ist heute noch in der Bevölkerung sichtbar, unter anderem durch die Geburt von Kindern mit Behinderungen. Das Hope Centre bietet Betroffenen eine Ausbildung im Schneidern, Handwerkskunst sowie Grundsätze des unternehmerischen Handelns. Das Hope Centre schafft somit eine sichere Einkommensquelle und eine Unterkunft für die Auszubildenden. Dieser wunderbare Ort ist auch persönlich sehr wichtig für uns, da wir alle das Hope Centre schon besucht haben und Amy 2011 dort für vier Monate ehrenamtlich gearbeitet hat. Wir freuen uns, dass wir ein anderes Sozialunternehmen durch diese Partnerschaft unterstützen können – nicht nur durch die Produktion sondern auch durch das Angebot von Trainingskursen in Sexualkunde.<br>

<span style="color:rgb(128,0,128)"><strong>Ein Überblick zu unseren bisherigen Events: </strong></span><br>
Vor zwei Wochen hatte <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> die Ehre an der AFL Finals Night der Vietnam Swans, dem besten australischen Fußballteam, das wir kennen, teilzunehmen! Die Vietnam Swans hatten uns schon vor einer ganzen Weile gefragt, ob wir bereit wären, unsere Arbeit bei ihrer Veranstaltung vorzustellen. Es war ein schöner Tag voller Sportgeist sowie einer Tombola und Auktion mit großartigen Preisen. Für uns am wichtigsten – dank der Großzügigkeit der Vietnam Swans wird <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> einen Teil der Erlöse erhalten, um unsere Übersetzer*innen für den vietnamesisch-sprachigen Blog finanziell zu unterstützen.<br>
<br>
Eine Woche später wurden wir vom Karrierezentrum der University of St. Andrews in Schottland eingeladen um <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> im Rahmen der Enterprise Week vorzustellen. Es war eine wertvolle Erfahrung, Studierende und Angestellte der Universität zu treffen und Sozialunternehmen zu diskutieren. Wir konnten bereits einiges von dem, was wir gelernt haben, vorstellen. In der anschließenden Fragerunde ging es darum, mutig zu sein und etwas zu wagen! <br>

Wir von der <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> freuen uns alle sehr auf das Quest Festival, eines der interessantesten Musik- und Kunstfestivals in Asien, vom 6. bis 8. November. Wir verkaufen dort <em>Your miniMates </em>und gestalten eine Sexualkunde-Ausstellung. Kommt vorbei und sagt hallo – wir tragen unsere <em>The intiMate Initiative</em> shirts!<br>
