<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">We are <b>re-advertising a PhD position on boundary-crossing, with an empirical focus on ‘transitional waters’
</b>in Scotland. Transitional (i.e. coastal) waters have environmental, economic, and social significance: for example they are the sites of major cities and ports, and they are subject to multiple planning and policy requirements that overlap at local, national,
and European scales. Thus in any one place, decision-making must encompass multiple sectors, stakeholders and policy targets. This entails crossing multiple ‘boundaries’ – not just administrative boundaries - but boundaries between disciplines, sectors, knowledge
and interests. The student will work with the supervisors to choose which aspects of boundary-crossing to focus on. It is anticipated that the PhD will provide a critical and theoretical contribution to concepts of boundary-crossing, adaptive management,
and knowledge co-production, and will also provide practical insights for the management of transitional waters. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">The PhD will be jointly supervised by Dr Karen Alexander (Scottish Association for Marine Sciences), Dr Kerry Waylen (James Hutton Institute) and Dr Tavis Potts (University of Aberdeen).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">Funding is via a 4-year scholarship provided by the Hydronation initiative in line with the current Research Councils UK doctoral stipend levels and indicative fees. Hydro Nation Scholarships are awarded on a competitive
merit, but good quality applicants will have a good chance of obtaining this.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
