The paper in Planning Perspectives (link below) has some interesting comments about the seduction of numbers. <br><br><br><div><div class="gmail_quote">---------- Forwarded message ----------<br>From: <b class="gmail_sendername">Beatrix Haselsberger</b> <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:beatrix.haselsberger@tuwien.ac.at">beatrix.haselsberger@tuwien.ac.at</a>></span><br>Date: Fri, Dec 19, 2014 at 12:30 PM<br>Subject: Season's Greetings from the Evolution of Planning Thought Team<br>To: <a href="mailto:ahartell@gmail.com">ahartell@gmail.com</a><br><br>

Dear friends of the <i>Evolution of Planning Thought</i> project,<br>
<br>
2014 was a very exciting year for the entire <i>Evolution of
Planning Thought</i> team! I am very pleased that so many of you
have followed our several activities and participated in the one or
other event, which we have organised. Your interest and support is
of incredible importance for us, because it encourages us to give
everything we can to move on with our exciting, but also very
challenging, project. <br>
<br>
For me personally, the EPT Vienna Symposium, which we organised in
May 2014 at the TU Vienna, Austria, was the absolute hallmark of
this year's activities. Bringing together 14 renowned planning
thinkers (average age 74) in one place for an entire week was like
making the impossible possible. By the way, have you already seen
our Youtube Video clip "First Glimpses" (<a href="http://youtu.be/q4Xxkzst0jM" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/q4Xxkzst0jM</a>).
If not, watch it! It is a short - 6 minutes - video highlighting
some selected key messages from the EPT Lecture Series. For your
information, the videos of the entire lectures will be made
available online on our website (<a href="http://info.tuwien.ac.at/planning-thought" target="_blank">http://info.tuwien.ac.at/planning-thought</a>)
at the end of next year together with the book launch. <br>

What have we planned for 2015? <br>
In July 2015 we will run a keynote panel discussion as part of the
AESOP 2015 conference in Prague (16 July 2015, 15.30-17.00) and
finally, if everything works out as planned, we will organise a book
launch event at the end of 2015 (most likely December) at the TU
Vienna, Austria. This book launch event will take place as part of
the 200 years anniversary celebrations of the TU Vienna.<br>
<br>
We are looking very much forward to many fruitful and inspiring
discussions with you also in 2015 about what planning is and/or
should be! I think that together we have the chance to further our
planning field and by doing so to continue the journey which our
renowned planning thinkers have started some 50 years ago.<br>
<br>
I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!<br>
